Shaft seals are used wherever rotating shafts, for example in gearboxes, motors, pumps or traction drives, need to be reliably sealed against leaking lubricants and penetrating dirt, water or dust. Particularly in harsh conditions on construction sites, in civil engineering or in quarries, shaft seals are crucial for ensuring that hydraulic oils, transmission fluids and lubricating greases stay where they belong and that external influences do not get into sensitive drive components.
Typical applications can be found in wheel and crawler travelling gears, in the slewing gear of excavators, in the drive unit of mixers, compressors or drilling equipment as well as in winches or hydraulic motors. They not only seal rotating shafts, but also help to reduce friction and wear. Modern shaft seals are often made of highly resistant elastomer materials or PTFE and have reinforced sealing lips or dust lips that are specially designed for use in dusty, damp and highly stressed environments. Thanks to their reliable sealing effect, shaft seals make a decisive contribution to functional safety, environmental protection and the minimisation of maintenance and repair costs in construction machinery of all kinds.
The selection of the right gasket material depends on the requirements of the respective application. Elastomer seals such as NBR or FKM are often used in hydraulic or fuel systems, while metallic seals or variants made of graphite and fibre composites are suitable for high temperatures and pressures.
We will be happy to advise and support you in selecting the right seal for your application.
